Welcome to Restorative Yoga + Yoga Nidra, an ALL-LEVELS 90-minute mid-day, mid-week practice blending two yogic healing arts. This special practice is all about you giving yourself some care when you need it.Restorative yoga (RY) focuses on stillness and meditative poses (reclining, others are prone (chest forward) or completely supine (on the back), or on one side then the other) in which your body is always supported held in position for about seven minutes each. RY revolves around up to 12 different poses. In a typical RY class, we can perform up to 5 RY poses. In this longer practice, we can perform 6, perhaps 7 depending upon transitions.You will rest on bolsters, folded blankets or cushions to help you go inward meditatively; to release and let go; to stretch and support joints, muscles and connective tissue in passive and lasting ways. As time in each pose progresses, your restoration will benefit your circulatory, metabolic and energy systems. While our instructor will try to keep you in a meditative wakeful state with readings, poetry, and explanations of the poses, don’t be surprised if you fall asleep!What about the Nidra part? A Nidra is a guided meditation of your physical body wherein your instructor will propose to you that you sense the parts of the body in poses of tension (i.e., making fists or flexing thighs) with accompanied suggestions of emotional states which can help further your progress into “now” followed by release in order to help your body truly let go.
